Oscar Nacht!

Oscar Nacht!

So as most of you are heading to bed, my husband and I are normally planning an after midnight soiree. We will cook most of the day mostly small bites, crudités and charcuterie. We will put the wine on chill and then head for a power nap. Our clocks will go off just before red carpet to lay out the food. We will then get cozy in the living room with our scoresheets in hand. At this point our sheets wrinkled with highlighter and whatever spilled drinks from watching every single nominated film for over month. Oscar Night is probably the biggest night for us in terms of celebration and television. It is bigger than fußball, the SuperBowl and Silvester. He takes off work for this. I create a themed menu. And the world stand stills in the early morning hours. And when the Best Picture and Best Director categories are announced we will head for a long Monday in bed only waking to eat the remaining food. This year we will be in two separate worlds. I will be at my mothers in the States watching from her archaic plasma surrounded by pets. He will be in his chaise lounge probably eating the remains of yesterdays takeaway. We will FaceTime the majority of the show. We will see how bad the delay is watching. We will also use an app for our predictions. The big difference is we both didn't see everything this year as we are apart. Scavenging the outskirts of Köln for dive kinos to see the nominations cannot be done alone. Same goes for scouring the interwebs for pirated links or trials to crappy subscriptions sites. There is only so much VPN access we can have. But we both have seen our fair share of the films this year to feel confident from live action to animated shorts. The past few years have been nothing short of exciting and controversial but this year is just nail biting. We simply do not know what to expect! What I can say is that there are only a handful of people in Germany that do as we do. I hope you drink every time you hear the word movie or film! I mean participate if you have Monday off as well or you are Irish or verrückt.

We are rooting for "Parasite" - what say you on this glorious night?
