Merry After Christmas

Merry After Christmas

It is 12:18am on Friday December 25th. Today is Christmas Day in America. I do not acknowledge that yesterday, Christmas Eve, December 24th is considered Christmas in Deutschland. For me, this year and every year Christmas is today. You wake up and Santa has arrived in the night. You open the presents under the tree. You have a breakfast, sleep most of the day away and then wake to eat, drink and be merry. For my German husband, I will let him feel Christmas-y on the 24th but there will be no effort on my part until today. I baked the plätzchen, I wore my pj pants with candy canes on them, I even played Christmas music and partook in the oddity of eating fondue (pleasantly surprised with the cheese version). But today I will do my hair, maybe put on some makeup, cook an exquisite formal meal and actually feel festive. Sadly, I didn't acknowledge this past day for anyone. I forgot to say anything to my in-laws. I ran into my neighbors and said my normal tchüss. I even went to the grocery store during these holiday hours and ignored a whole warm greeting by the cashier in regards to their day. Tschuldi but today is the day. Today I will acknowledge all things Christmas. That's that on that.

Merry Christmas to all!
