Reflections on International Women's Day

Reflections on International Women's Day

I must remind myself that March 8th is International Women's Day and that it lasts all day until the sun sets in Hawaii. I am sitting here knowing full and well the festivities are ongoing in the States as it is only 1:26am here in Germany. However, I am beating myself up for not engaging with anyone here about it. Surely, on my private and personal social media I have been going in all day with commentary and memes around women and their undeniable power. But here in Germany I have no audience, sisterhood or friends who can align with this day - well not yet. I try not to identify as a woman in my digital footprint even though it is obvious by my avatar and posts around feminine and womanly concepts. I just don't want this space to be pushed in any direction of being for women only or non inclusive to those who identify or choose not to. But I do want to celebrate any day where people are given their flowers while they are living especially if they are going big things. And I cannot do that without recognizing the girls, fluid, binary and trans folk that will be women, can be women, were women and whoever strives to be human and chooses femininity whenever they wish to - should be a fucking right if you ask me! At the end of the day we all have to deal with patriarchy, gender roles and male mediocrity. Even the idea that a trans woman who pushes society to accept her for choosing her own identity is really pushing the male mediocrity bullshit to the wayside. I mean if you want to bow to societal norms and accept gender as it has been sold to us why oppress those who choose different and do so with toxic masculinity or violence? That is male mediocrity and I don't even have to tack race onto it. I just wanna say those who are women or identify as such deserve to be better than constructs, creations and conformists. We are so much better than that whatever that is. In Berlin this day is a holiday. I don't know if that says Berlin is progressive or apologetic but aren't we getting somewhere? And it isn't nor was it ever and never will be about movements giving us rights to our choices and bodies and voices. No. This day is more about us and us doing us. Not our downfalls, tragedies or us under the male gaze or the influence or pressures of anyone saying what and who women should be. This is women grabbing life by the balls and standing up to say we do so much more and we are way more than you think we are. It is proclaiming our own recognition and walking in it for just a day. I'm never forgetting that again. We international baby! All time zones, all platforms, all the way live.

Happy Women's Day!
